Friends

Friend is not a word I use often or loosely. It is an endearment of magnanimous meaning to me.
When you find someone you can truly call friend, treasure them and keep them close to your heart. They are rare , precious and few. And they aren't necessarily human.

Children are not born with biggotry and prejudice

When a baby is born the sound of its' newborn cry sounds like the cry of any other baby who has been born. It has no ethnic sound just a silence breaking cry announcing its' arrival. The parents look at their beautiful God granted gift with joy and love. They have no thought at that special moment of red, brown, black asian, caucasian. Just the all encompassing feeling of joy and love. At what point do these once joyful parents then realize it is time to teach hatred? To embed prejudice and biggotry? These awful faults are taught - learned behaviors and then there is theWHY? It makes no sense. Imagine what we could accomplish together instead of fighting among all Gods children. He Our God created diversity to bring diversity not division.

As My Daughters Honor Me

I have 4 children . I love them most dearly. Two honor me in ways that cause me to near burst with pride . I guess 2 out of 4 isn't so bad. The other 2 I hold some hope for. My daughter Jodi has honored me in writing a book of poetry that has been published and is available in many online book stores. I hope everyone will support her in her first published work of poetry it is phenomenol. My second daughter who is the older of the 2 not by alot , honors me with her compassion and her novel writing as well as being a RN. Both are wonderful Mothers.Jodi is also a magnificient artist and I expect them to go far and be very successful. They are what makes all the hard work and tears of Motherhood the most rewarding and fullfilling accomplishment I have ever achieved.
My thought for today and every day is simply this: Love your children with all your heart and soul . Give them all you have to give. Hold back nothing that is constructive and remember you will make mistakes, be honest with them. Make no excuses tell no lies they are watching and listening even if they appear not to be. The outcome will astonish you.

I can only imagine

I can only imagine the spiritual beauty of the artists who have created such visual grandeur for us to behold. How privileged we are to be gifted with sight in order to see what our Creator has endowed these magnificient American Natives with. If only the whole world had this beauty within them the outward manifestation could only bring unity and peace.

Indian Freedom

Nothing could reflect my inner spirit more accurately than this...After my Mother crossed over to the spirit world It was soon after I had just lost my only full blood sister. The grief was near unbearable, I had a vision it was my Mom she was standing across a body of crystal clear, calm and serene looking water. She was standing in a field of wild flowers wearing a white buckskin dress. She turned and as she lifted her hands together upward with her lips pursed as if to send a kiss, she released 3 white doves. I thought this could not be she had 4 children. She would not forget anyone. Then it dawned on me, my little sister was already there with her. The 3 doves were for those of us left behind on this plain. I need to add something here that I negated . I have 3 sisters. My one full blood sister is the one who passed. These 2 sisters were of my Mother and there is no distinction when it comes to love. Dianne was special we shared a unique bond and that is my grief. But the 2 remaining sisters I do have I treasure. And our grief is shared not unique to me.

MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day is a day that we honor those who served our country and have since gone to meet our Creator. They are forever in our hearts and memories. We who they died for are eternally grateful for the freedom we enjoy. Thank You and May God Bless You and May your Heaven be filled with Peace and Tranquility. I miss you Daddy

The awesome power of Motherhood and the pain and joy it can bring

Yesterday my daughter got married. This should have been a joyous occassion. Instead it brought tremendous heartache that may or may not ever heal. Her alcoholism blinded her to the true love of her family of her Mother. I was good enough to pay for her dress and shoes.put money on her now husbands ring. Pay for all food and staples for two months only to be told to get the blank blank out , because I wouldn't let her and her husband control my money and destroy my marriage of 17 yrs. I wasn't invited to her wedding and at first I hurt like a hot poker had been plunged into my soul. Now I realize in her addiction she has no ability to reason. As much as it hurts , my back is turned to her only the Creator can save her now. Farewell my once little one until the Creator deals with you and your addiction you have no Mother.

spirituality in all things

The wisdom of the wolf
the power of its wisdom
brings strenth and spirituality
For it hunts and eats only what it needs
Not for sport.

Rememberances of Dianne

Cherokee Angel
The leaves outside suddenly began to stir,
And the wind chimes played a melody,
I knew without question it was her,
Just a little game she likes to play with me...
I go to the window and that's where I see her,
My Spirit Dove laughing and dancing around just for me,
Hands raised toward Heaven, the fall leaves stir,
As a child she laughs so carefree...
Suddenly she turns to me and offers up a grin,
For she knows this is only temporary,
A story she told me, where to begin?
Without giving away what was privy to me...
I think back on what she said before she left this plain,
She said, "I'm broken and they can't fix me."
"I'll never be the same."
"I just want to be free"...
Inside I knew what it was she was implying,
And I knew it had to be,
Now days of endless crying,
How could she do this to me?
Alas-understanding and knowledge I have complete,
For I know I will see her again,
Still this grief an impossible feat,
When it was her life that was taken...
We were born of two worlds,
As sisters we were one,
Strangers we were as little girls,
But our journey never done...
I miss her so much,
I've never felt a stronger connection,
To once again feel her sweet touch,
In this world of cruel rejection...
Dance on Spirit Dove,
For I will see you once again,
When it is my time to rise up above,
I will meet you at the gates of Heaven...

Beautiful

Native American beauty unleashed...

Life Lesson

You cannot build your joy on the heartache of others.
What you do today" should tomorrow be granted" can and will affect the lives of those who love you. Treat each heart you touch with tenderness, kindness and above all love. Then if tomorrow is granted there is no regret for yesterday.

Kindness my thought for today

Commit a random act of kindness and brighten someones day.
You will shine a light and change a life.
It doesn't hurt and takes very little time.

Fine Lines

When does empowering become enabling?
When does forgiveness become stupidity?
Where is that fine line?

The FBI is actively involved in this investigation. I missed the website address but the phone # is 1-800-FED-INFO The information mostly concerns Viet Nam Vets and some spouses. EVERY VET FROM THE VIET NAM WAR ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAR

In the 60s' we had a saying and however corny it may seem today I cannot help but wonder.
What if they gave a war and nobody showed up?

Thought For Life

It really doesn't matter what "they" do. It matters what "I" do. For in the end I only answer for me. But if what I do can influence what someone else does, I owe it to "them" to do right.

Respect , Defending Bear Butte

Bear Butte

I wish it were possible for the Native American people to get it across to the entire world how very much our sacred places mean to us. As "for example" Mecca is to Islam or Jerusalem to the Christians or Jewish people. To explain that no man made cathedral , mosque or temple could mean anymore to other beliefs as our Sacred places where generations of our ancestors have worshipped practicing the beliefs we still hold dear today. At no place is the culture gulf that seperates the European and the Indigenous people of America more evident. The desicration and disregard for this lands sacred places and the inablity or refusal to understand and respect that these places are to us as the Vatican is or any other structure of religious belief. Ancient and above all Holy , Sacred. These sites should be protected from human interference. Industry and greed instead rule in utter disregard. What we as Native Americans gaze upon with reverence instead is looked at with greedy calculation and lust.

The greater society in America does not seem to grasp what we repeat unendingly to them.
"BEAR BUTTE IS SACRED"
"BEAR BUTTE IS A HOLY MOUNTAIN"
"BEAR BUTTE IS WHERE WE PRAY"
"BEAR BUTTE IS WHERE WE FAST"
"BEAR BUTTTE IS HOME TO THE SPIRITS"
This is our belief, our faith, our "religion". We have explained this since the very first Euro came among us. We informed them first as friends welcoming strangers into our lands, we told their missionaries, explorers, generals and presidents. We told them in meetings with their government, their fur trading companies, we told Custer, Crook, Grant and all their leaders. They wrote it into the treatys' as they looked our leaders and all our people in the face as we lost our lands. In "land commission hearings" in court room after court room............. However in two centuries, rare has there been a Euro who actually heard what we said even though they gave the appearance of listening.

Once and again the sanctity of the Sacred mountain is under attack. The "Sturgis Bike Rally" has become a gigantic cash cow for the hedonistic purveyors of sex and sin that the land encircling Bear Butte is coveted as drunken sites of noisy, disrespectful, debauchery. Land once used for agriculture is now commanding astronomical prices. A liquor license is now worth an approximate $500,000.00. Evel Kneival and "Lynyrd Skynyrd" play to thousands of screaming fans in a concert venue and a beer bash campground so "elequently called", Buffalo Chip!

The "Chips" extreme noise is only four miles from the base of Bear Butte and close enough for a person praying on Bear Butte to clearly hear every filthy word that spews from their gigantic mega - watt speaker system.

Over the years these venues have crept closer and closer until one even has its filthy toilets on the slope of the Sacred Mountain Itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Each year thousands of motorcycles roar around and upon Bear Butte, as America displays its version of "Sodom and Gomorah" within yards of the spot from which Chief Crazy Horse spoke when he told us to never sell the land.

Also over the years many Native American people and tribes have attempted to defend the Sacred Mountain. In the mid 1800's a war party rode out from the area to fight a wagon train crossing the sacred lands. Not because they were savages but because our Sacred and Holy site was being desicrated with extreme predjudice.

To this day the "pioneers?" have a historical plaque beside their highway 34 commerating their dead ancestors. Never once hearing or heeding , the reason , the why of our attempt to drive them away. Two years ago we beat back an attempt by some developers aided by Bill Janklow, to build a shooting range close by the Sacred Mountain. What don't they get? Have we not been clear? Have we not lost enough?

Recently the trigger to our ongoing and present struggle is the proposal by yet another developer to turn his 600 acres "his" on the North side of Bear Butte into a gigantic biker bar and concert venue. Oxy-moron if ever there was , "Bear Butte - venue"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To make it worse he proposed to erect a giant "Indian" statue facing Bear Butte and to call the whole place , "Now get this", SACRED GROUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With one proposal the developer named Ray Allen, aroused the alarm and anger of every Native American who holds this Mountain Sacred. The Oglala, The Rosebud tribes of the Sioux Nation and the Cheyenne of Montana each immediately responded by passing resolutions condeming any and all further development expressing the will of their Nations, that Bear Butte be protected by a buffer zone of at least five miles and all further development be halted until suitable protections can be emplaced. Soon many more Native American Nations, societies and organizations will be making their opposition known and we will work in UNITY, to keep The Mountain "SACRED".

As soon as the "Sacred Grounds" announcement was made , various groups of Native American activists began to work to stop the development. Foremost among them has been the "Defenders of the Black Hills" , "International Alliance to Protect Bear Butte". This blog will do its best to carry their announcements and to support their work. "Owe Aku" a grassroots traditionalist group from Pine Ridge immediately began to alert the people to the danger and to successfully lobby the Oglala Tribal Council for the opposing resolution. Meantime many individual Native American people began to attend meetings and to voice their disapproval of the development as well as to seek a way to voice their opinions.

One of the apparent needs is for a website that will keep and diseminate updated information and give the people a place to ask and have their questions answered. As a concerned Native American I will do all I can on this blog to provide as much accurate information as possible.

I too believe it is the duty of every Native American and human being , be it man, woman, or child to help preserve our Sacred Places , traditions and way of life. Everyone has a role to play. Every traditional Society should join this work.

On this blog you will find the words that I and other Native Americans who care deeply about these "Sacred Native American Places" want to send out to the entire world in the hope someone might hear and actually listen. I hope these words will be a call to action. We need your help and support in a non-violent and positive way. We are trying Once More but slowly, heart breakingly, we are loosing our Mountain.

Each year the bike rally grows to unbelievable proportions, from 100,000 in 1990 to 600,000 this year. The only land left to develop surrounds Our Holy Place. We need the help of all who can and will hear these words of truth, 'BEAR BUTTE IS SACRED'.

No where have we asked the bike rally to stop or be given up. We have asked for respect deserved and earned. HOLY, SACRED , Your Vatican,Temple,Church, Mosque. Hear us Listen and Respect what we hold dear. I am Tsalagi(Cherokee) I have heard and I am listening. I am one but We are many.
